Could airbrush makeup ever become as widespread as regular makeup?

The other day, I was sitting in my salon and somebody told me that they thought airbrush makeup would eventually take over completely and would become the norm. This is an interesting thought, but how likely is this really?

If I am honest, I don’t think that airbrush makeup will ever be this widespread. Yes, the results we can see with airbrush makeup are really incredible and can really transform people but it requires quite a steep initial capital investment.

Many people will not be invest in compressors to get themselves started but this is not the main reason why people won’t adopt it entirely. Really, it is the fact that airbrush makeup requires more skill. Sure, it can be learned relatively quickly but for many people it will be very hard to change habits and they will never want to change.

Whatever the case, it is clear to see those who make the effort are rewarded handsomely. Perhaps it will have a sort of domino-effect. When people see their friends looking stunning thanks to airbrush makeup they might give it a try. Having said this, it seems unlikely that it will be present in every household.

HD will mean that more celebrities will need to cover up

It is interesting to see that nowadays as HD is becoming the norm more and more celebrities are being exposed to its all seeing eye. It is now more or less mandatory to use airbrush makeup if you are planning on going in front of a high definition camera. It is going to be a very interesting time for the airbrush makeup industry as regular makeup just won’t stand up to the test!

What is the difference between single and dual action brushes?

When choosing an airbrush, it is necessary to keep in mind the difference between single and dual action brushes.

Dual-action brushes allow the user to determine exactly how much they want to release at any one time. This means that you can pull the trigger just a little bit in order to spray slowly and pulling the trigger harder will mean that more paint is released. Single action airbrushes simply have a button which is pressed. In order to alter the amount of paint sprayed with single action brushes you have to move the brush closer or further away from the subject.

Generally dual action brushes are preferable because single action ones can become a bit messy sometimes. Having said this, some artists swear by single action brushes and will only use them. Single action brushes also require less maintenance.

Explaining Airbrush Makeup to others

It can be very hard to explain the concept of airbrush makeup to those who haven’t spent any time in the industry or aren’t used to the idea. For many, airbrushing is what is done to pictures before they are published in magazines and it is very hard to actually explain that it you can apply it to actual people!

I don’t know if any of you have ever had this problem. In my salon it can be hard to spread the word about airbrush makeup simply because it is so difficult to get past this idea in people’s heads that it is just for celebrities! If only people could actually see the amazing results that normal people are getting every day! Oh well, I guess some people will never learn…
